Interior design students transform fresno State Clothing Closet

The Career Development Center recently partnered with Fresno State’s interior design program to host a competition in which teams of students created design proposals that transform the Clothing Closet into an elevated space that mirrors clothing retail establishments.

Founded in 2016, the Clothing Closet offers students professional attire for job interviews, career fairs, work and other networking opportunities, at no cost. Students can choose from  blouses, slacks, blazers, shoes and more. All items available to students are donated by staff, faculty and community members.

There were over 2,000 student visits to the Clothing Closet in the 2022-2023 academic year.

The Career Development Center wants to redesign its Clothing Closet in hopes that a retail-like space will remove stigma and give students more confidence as they “shop” for professional clothing.

Designs submitted by students for the competition were judged by faculty, alumni interior designers and staff members from the Career Development Center.

Madison Gonzalez, Kathya Tena and Roxana Vazquez were named the winners of the competition. They each received a gift card from the Career Development Center and will see their design come to life after enough funds have been raised to complete construction.
