Rebekah Moses is the 2022 Undergraduate Dean’s Medalist for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. She is graduating with her bachelor’s degree in health science, with a focus in health administration.

Originally from Firebaugh, Moses enlisted in the military after graduating from Firebaugh High School in 2001.

“I was raised in a lower-socioeconomic household. Because my parents were unable to fund my college education, I enlisted in the military at the age of 17 to pave a future for myself,” Moses said. “During my training in boot camp, 9/11 happened, the world changed…The opportunity to attend college while I was enlisted was no longer an option, as focusing on serving my country became the priority.”

Moses served in the military for eight years, as a Hospital Corpsmen Third Class.

“While I served in the military, I received numerous awards, starting with the most prestigious award an enlisted military member in the Navy can earn, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Award. I received the award for the many improvements I implemented and for the quality work performed at Negishi Medical clinic during the war on terrorism. I also received the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon Award, and a Navy Pistol Sharp Shooter Award.”

After she was honorably discharged, Moses returned to the Central Valley and started a family, raising four children. When her youngest child started kindergarten, Moses decided to pursue her education. She attended Fresno City College for two years and then transferred to Fresno State in the fall of 2020.

While at Fresno State, Moses has been an active member of TRIO Student Support Services Veterans, American Sign Language Club, and the Hispanic Business Student Association.

Moses has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her entire academic career and hopes to keep the same momentum as she begins her Master’s program this fall at National University, where she will be studying public health.

“My long-term goal is [to become] an administrator in our local veterans hospital here in Fresno. I want to be able to serve my community and give back to our hometown heroes. I know as a veteran myself that the healthcare system can be complex and confusing, [and] as a health administrator, I hope to help people navigate through the system and help them get the care they need. Then, one day, I aspire to continue with my education and earn my Ph.D. in health administration.”
